Being disabled or having a chronic illness is not always visible from the outside, but that doesn’t mean it affects your life any less. Yet people who have invisible illnesses or disabilities are routinely asked to “prove” their condition to others. Labelled as feckless shirkers, hypochondriacs and liars. An appalling example of such a bigoted ignorant mindset was the recent mistreatment of Paralympic athletes; some of whom were ordered to “publicly prove” their conditions by EasyJet staff at an airport due to “looking completely normal”. I love politicians (but I could never eat a whole one…). Old jokes aside, the people who defend these (allegedly) noble souls and their dubious contribution to society are just downright deluded or married to one. Probably both.
